Using Compliance Mode at an Inspection or Weighbridge
When an enforcement officer is about to inspect your Electronic Work Diary (EWD), it's critical that you follow the correct steps to enter Compliance Mode. This protects your privacy, ensures a smooth inspection, and complies with NHVR’s Electronic Work Diary standards and Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL).
Why Compliance Mode Matters
Compliance Mode is a secure, read-only mode in your Logmaster app designed specifically for inspections. Officers are trained to use this mode only. If you don’t enable it, they may:
- Not understand how your diary works or say that you have not provided what is needed
- Attempt to navigate the app or your device in order to conduct the inspection
- View information outside of what is specified for logbook inspections
Activating Compliance Mode locks down the app (for android, for ios see this extra step: Setup iOS Guided Access) and gives the officer access only to what’s required — and nothing else.
Step-by-Step: Before You Hand Over the Device
Step 1: Go to the Side Menu
Step 2: Tap the 'Compliance' Button
Once tapped, you will enter the Compliance area of the app, and the following happens:
- For Android: The device is automatically locked into inspection mode.
- For iOS (Apple devices): See Setup iOS Guided Access to improve your privacy
What the Officer Sees
Once Compliance Mode is active and the officer acknowledges the displayed instructions
they’ll be able to access:
- 28 days of graph logbook entries
- Inspection aid showing any locked-in breaches
- Annotation tools to record inspection details
- Option to email themselves a copy of the 28-day EWD history
Important Reminders
- You can simulate this process anytime to understand how it works. Just go to the side menu and tap 'Compliance'. But don’t forget your password — you'll need it to exit.
- After the inspection, the officer will return the device to you.
- You’ll press Exit and enter your password to leave Compliance Mode and resume normal use.
Legal & Standards Alignment
This inspection procedure aligns with the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and the NHVR’s Electronic Work Diary (EWD) Standards, which require:
- Secure access to 28 days of driver work/rest history
- Read-only data during an inspection
- Officer-only access to inspection tools and logbooks
- No access to editable areas or other phone functions
By using Compliance Mode correctly, you protect your information and help ensure a compliant and professional inspection experience.
Only use Compliance Mode
Using the Compliance button is the only approved way to show your diary. Officers aren’t trained in the full app and should not be navigating your phone. If you follow this process, you’ll meet your obligations and safeguard your privacy.
